Kwame Alexander

Kwame Alexander is a poet, children’s book author, playwright, producer, dynamic speaker, performer, and the author of fourteen books including AND THEN YOU KNOW: New and Selected Poems, CRUSH: Love Poems for Teenagers, and FAMILY PICTURES: Poems and Photographs Celebrating Our Loved Ones. He has delivered awe-inspiring keynote speeches, and performed his cutting-edge brand of poetry to audiences at numerous conferences, colleges and venues throughout the world, including: Oberlin College, UC Berkeley, Stratford-on-Avon, Brixton Town Hall, Hampton University, Duke University, University of Maryland, America's Choice National Conference, National Council for Teachers of English Convention, the Gwendolyn Brooks Writers Conference, and the New York State Council for Teachers of English Annual Conference.  From 2005-2011, Kwame was the founding producer of the Capital BookFest, an annual touring book festival that reached more than 10,000 book-lovers in Charleston, SC, Washington, DC, and Richmond, VA.

Since 2006, Kwame’s Bookinaday (BID) writing & publishing program has created more than 1000 student authors in more than 30 schools across the country, and in Canada. In the summer of 2010, Alexander created the Book-in-a-Day International Fellowship, and took eight writer/educators on a creative journey to Tuscany.
