The 2010 Children’s Choice Book Awards

The Children's Book Council announced the winners of the third annual Children's Choice Book Awards during a gala held in New York on May 11, 2010, as part of Children's Book Week (May 10-16th). Recipients of the award were selected by over 115,000 online votes by kids across the country through the website www.BookWeekOnline.com.

Now in its third year, the Children's Choice Book Awards Program was founded as a way to provide young readers the opportunity to voice their opinions about the books being written for them, as well as to help create a reading list that will help motivate children to read more, and to cultivate a love of reading.

The winners are:

Kindergarten to Second Grade Book of the Year
LULU THE BIG LITTLE CHICK written and illustrated by Paulette Bogan (Bloomsbury USA)

Third Grade to Fourth Grade Book of the Year
LUNCH LADY AND THE CYBORG SUBSTITUTE written and illustrated by Jarrett J. Krosoczka (Knopf/Random House)

Fifth Grade to Sixth Grade Book of the Year
DORK DIARIES: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life, written and illustrated by Rachel Renee Russell (Aladdin/Simon & Schuster)

Teen Choice Book of the Year
CATCHING FIRE by Suzanne Collins (Scholastic)

Author of the Year
James Patterson for MAX: A Maximum Ride Novel (Little, Brown)

The 2008 Children's Choice Book Awards

On May 13th, 2008, the Children's Book Council (CBC) announced the winners of the newly launched Children's Choice Book Awards. The three titles and two authors honored in each of the five categories were selected from finalists compiled from bestseller lists, including those by BookScan, The New York Times and USA Today. Children across the country then cast nearly 55,000 votes at book stores, school libraries and at BookWeekOnline.com. The awards were presented at a gala held in New York City as part of this year's Children's Book Week, held from May 12-18.

This year's winners are:
