Amelia Bedelia Series

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMELIA BEDELIA!

In 1963 Peggy Parish introduced readers to Amelia Bedelia, a housekeeper who does exactly as she is told. Her literal mind results in a number of misunderstandings that often frustrate those affected, including her two clients, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. But Amelia Bedelia means well, and it's her good heart and willingness to help others that have endeared her to so many people over the years. Following Peggy's untimely death in 1988, her nephew Herman decided to pick up where his beloved aunt left off. Thanks to his hard work and dedication, Amelia Bedelia has been able to get behind the wheel of a car, participate in a school concert, play doctor, and even run for mayor.

This year, Amelia Bedelia is celebrating her 40th birthday --- and has returned for a brand new misunderstanding! In AMELIA BEDELIA, BOOKWORM Amelia Bedelia is helping out at her local library, as Mrs. Page (the world's best librarian, according to Amelia) is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the head librarian, Mrs. Cramer. You'll literally laugh out loud when you discover what Amelia Bedelia's idea of a "book jacket" and a "thesaurus" is. It's no laughing matter though when she takes the library's bookmobile to buy a book --- without asking the library for permission! Of course it's all one big misunderstanding, but how exactly will Mrs. Page and Mrs. Cramer react to Amelia Bedelia's latest blunder?

If you'd like to learn more about Amelia Bedelia and all her wacky adventures from the past 40 years, be sure to check out our Amelia Bedelia series feature.

Happy birthday, Amelia Bedelia! But remember … if you're having dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and they propose a toast to you, please don't go anywhere near the bread!
