CLASSIC READING LISTS

What Makes a Classic?

Welcome to the Kids Reads Classic Reading List --- the compilation of more than 100 remarkable classic books broken out by reader ability that we feel have risen above thousands of other titles when it comes to reader enthusiasm.

What makes a book a children's classic? The qualities that make a book memorable--unforgettable characters, top-notch writing, outstanding art work or just plain silliness--often determine whether it will stand the test of time and reach classic status.Celestial numbers --- strong and lasting commercial sales ---also drive an ordinary title towards being a classic. And a book's staying power --- its ability to remain popular with young readers and children's book professionals generation after generation--- is another clear indication that a book is destined for classical endowment.

These titles are just a fraction of literally hundreds of books that could qualify as classics. We hope you'll join us in celebrating their merit. And if these fine books remind you of classics you love, let us know, by e-mailing: talkback@kidsreads.com. We'll use your expert suggestions to help select new additions to the Classic Reading List.
