Selecting the favorites from a vast group of possibilities was tough. After all, what makes a book a favorite? Well, bestseller status (which reflects the tastes of kids and parents) is one important factor.

Expert recommendations from teachers, librarians and authors initially helped narrow the field. And in the end, we at Kids Reads relied on our own knowledge and instincts to pull it all together.

We know that for every exceptional title listed here on the Kids Reads Recommended New Favorites Reading List, there are likely 100 more just as deserving.
