Poems from fellow Bookworms

I got 3 phone calls this morning,
they were from my friends...
they told me there was an accident--
at 4 a.m.
My best friend had been in it...
so had 45 other kids....
I couldn't stop crying when the police came in.
I entered the gymnasium,
to sobs, and screams, and pain,
I fit right in....
The principal confirmed,
the tour bus had tipped over
and 4 kids were dead.
A wave of cries passed over the crowd,
of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders
The most popular guy in school...was sobbing on his jersey...
as the most popular girl screamed...
supporting each others heavy bodies of grief,
we walked back to homeroom.
I knew my life long friend was dead.
I could  not stop shaking...
My breakfast was almost gone...
and the tears of the other kids....
were oblivious to me.
I could not stop crying,
till I found out she was OK.
I cried a sigh of relief
in my father's arms...
I felt weak, and could not stand,
but she was ok....
the 4 kids who did die
I could not cry for them.
I'm so sorry, I know I'll grieve tonight.
Even with the thousands of bottles of tears they handed out,
it was not my body,
but my heart and eyes that were dehydrated.
Rumors continued the fly around
like pollinating bees
All the gory details, would make ME bleed.

The field trip had been much anticipated,
all the kids were overjoyed.
They had rehearsed hard
and had packed suitcases
for the trip was supposed to last 4 days....
not 7 hours.

The bus skidded off the road,
the accident killed 4 people.
4 people whom I will never again see in the halls.
They will never drive.
never graduate,
never marry,
never have a family,
and never grow old with their beloved.
I did not know the people too well,
but when I see their empty seats in class, I will grieve and mourn them.

I cannot cry anymore,
for I have no energy to dry the tears.
But why should I be crying?
Even if it is ONLY my 1/2 birthday,
no type of birthday at all should be given this type of present.

I don't know what to do in order to remember them,
except keep this poem for as long as I live.

For the lives who were disrupted, this poem is in memory of Greg Chan, Kayla Rosenberg, Steve Glidden, and Melissa Leon, who were killed in the tragic bus accident headed to Nova Scotia for a band contest. I have seen many deaths on TV, and I never did care, until it happened to me. I never understood what it meant to mourn for someone whom you loved until I actually had to do it. Do not take the lives of those around you for granted, and enjoy each day with them instead. Remember that please.

-Mourner of the Nova Scotia bus trip from OHMS

Wishes
Sometimes late at night,
when the stars are twinkling bright,
I try to make a wish about
things that some people may doubt,
wishing for a long happy life,
wishing that someday I will be a wife.
Wishes are dreams you think about each day,
wishes are things that you pray.
Everyone wishes that their dreams may come true,
sadly that will not happen to some of you,
for one of my wishes has already come true!

Hi! I wrote before about some book series about horses (like THOROUGHBRED, SADDLE CLUB, PONY TAILS, and HEARTLAND) and asked if you knew of any other horse series to read. Well, I found some. I read the first book of the "A Secret Refuge" series by Lauraine Snelling, and I can't wait to read the second. And I'm also going to be reading other series by Lauraine Snelling about horses. I'm reading book #8 in her "High Hurdles" series, and I'm going to start reading her other series like the "Red River of the North" series and the Golden Filly Series. I also want to read her book called "Hawaiian Sunrise" sometime.
