A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Have you collected some great books you want to read this summer? I get letters asking me for summer reading lists. I know that some schools assign books that have to be read before school starts. We do not have those lists, but we did ask a few authors to share their reading suggestions with kids at BOOKWORM. Sometimes it is nice to find out what the authors think would be great choices for kids. If you need some help picking out good summer reading books, then I suggest that you check out our feature, SUMMER READING LISTS FROM AUTHORS YOU LOVE. You can even click on the link on the left side of the page to read what others have written in for their summer reading.

And now for my news this week...

--Booker T. Worm

PREACHER'S BOY
It's 1899 and, in Vermont, Robbie Hewitt is having a tough time being the son of a minister. Robbie gets fed up with God and the Church, so he decides to renounce his father, the church and no longer be a part of the church's congregation. The only problem is: where will his frantic search for real living take him? Will he really get to ride in one of those newfangled motorcars? Does God provide for boys who depart from the flock? You'll have to read the PREACHER'S BOY to find out the answers to these questions, and more.

THE POWER OF TWO
Twins appear in all kinds of fairy tales and myths from around the world. Two of the most famous are Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the moon, nature, etc. and Apollo, her brother, the God of the sun and music among other things. Together, these mythical twins were an unstoppable force.

Fast forward a couple thousand years and jump over to America. Twin girls are born to a powerful witch. She names them Apolla and Artemis, knowing that they will one day be great and magical themselves. But before the twins are even beyond the diaper stage, an evil wizard wants them dead. To save the babies' lives, their mother separates them and vows that they will not discover their true identities. A kindly wizard and a young witch are charged with guarding over the twins. Read THE POWER OF TWO, the first in an exciting new supernatural series and find yourself pulled into the world of T*Witches.

Poems from fellow Bookworms

This poem is from Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul:
If it were all up to me
The poor would have riches
And the blind man would see
The hungary would eat
And the weak would be strong
And the poeple with hatred would all get along
The ones who are greedy would start to share
And unfriendly people would start to care
The thirsty would drink
And the deaf person hear
And sorrow and sadness would all disappear
And that is how the world would be
If it were all up to me.

my friend loves to read her name is molly.she has tons of books in her room. golly! i also love it too. i think it  is  cool.

Sadness is grey like the storm clouds during a blizzard
It's cold like a snowball hitting your head,
It sounds like a small child crying in the corner.
It tastes like a rotten tomato,
It smells like dead roses in the trash,
It fells like a sharp edge cutting you skin,
It moves like a silent windstorm sweeping you off you feet.

* * * * *

You run down an alley from a car,
You can't run to far,
You wonder what you did,
Then you remember,
The hate is strong,
The noght is black,
The gunshot is fired,
Your in the hospital bed,
Your lying still,
Your almost dead,
That one night I will never forget.

Math

This Tree

As I lie beneath this tree, I wonder
Is it ever lonely?
Does it need someone like me,
To keep it company?

As I watch this tree, I see
Leaves swaying in the branches,
The round trunk of the tree,
That tells me it is wise and old.

As I watch this tree, I see
A squirrel climbing up its trunk.
Jumping from branch to branch,
Enjoying every moment.

As I lie beneath this tree, I do not
Wonder anymore.
For I know this tree has seen
Its days and nights of happiness.

Dear Dandelion

Dear Dandelion,
Who made your stem,
your leaves,
and your bright yellow buds?
Who made you blow in the wind?

Nature has made my stem green,
my green leaves,
and my brigth yellow buds.
As I spread through the ground,
little kids like me,
but adults don't.
They call me a weed.

When I read, my mind goes somewhere else.  Like to a magical
place, or even a horse race. Maybe
I'll have to make a tough decision,
or I'll be on television. You never
know where you'll go in a book.

I think everyone should read One Thing I'm Good At. I like it because it is easy to relate to and it shows how different friends can be.

* * * * *

I am an avid reader and I like a ton of books that I'll share.

1. One Thing I'm Good At > This book is about a girl who is not understood. She despratley tries to be like her best friend, Abby, and the popular girls. While
trying to straighten up her life her dad almost loses his. Yet, she turns out to be a hero. This is an excellent book.

2. If You Only You Knew > Zoe is a girl who knows everyone and anyone in her school, but, she really want s someone to be her best friend. That someone is C.J. a ballerina dancer.  And to add on to the stress her older sisters are not understanding her.  But soon C.J. becomes her friend.  But her crush who also likes her is dating her best friend C.J. I think this a great novel.

3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire > It is this summer vacation for Harry that is good. He is allowed to go to The Quidditch World Cup. And when he gets to school he see's his crush, Cho Chang he is hoping to impress her. When he is chosen to be in Triwizard Tournament he uses that oppurtunity! The end is sad but it is a great book!!!!
