A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Wow! My mailbox was full this week from e-mails about a recent review we published on A SMART GIRL'S GUIDE TO BOYS. A lot of you wanted advice on how to let someone know you like them. While I can't give you any expert advice on how to deal with this, I can say that it is important to talk to your mom or dad about this if you have questions. I am sure that they remember their first crush and know exactly how you feel. Who better to ask advice from than someone who loves you the most?

For those who wrote that weren't going boy crazy, the rest of my mailbox was filled with mails about our Captain Underpants feature. Did you know that Dav (originally Dave) hit upon the current spelling of his name when a label maker used to create name tags refused to print the letter "e"? Though the spelling has changed, the pronunciation is the same.

Many of you wanted to write letters to Dav Pilkey, the author. Fear not! We have a snail mail address for him here. And if that isn't enough, check out his website at http://www.pilkey.com

Now for this week's news...

--Booker T. Worm

Question of the Week
Here's this week's Question of the Week:

What's your favorite spooky book?

Send your answer to YouSaid@kidsreads.com. Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online!

Halloween Roundup
Looking for a treat? Try one of these spooky Halloween books. But you better read them with a light on --- these books are guaranteed ghostly, ghastly! Aw, but don't worry they are also guaranteed great!

Sammy Keyes Series
Who is Sammy Keyes? Well, first off, Sammy is not a boy, but a girl, and a real spitfire to boot. Sammy is daring and brash, yet cool-headed when faced with danger. She's a self-proclaimed tomboy, mystery-solver and one tough cookie! In this series, author Wendelin Van Draanen brings us the adventures of this feisty 13 year-old girl and her friends.

BOOK REVIEWS:

BLACKBERRIES IN THE DARK
Don't let the thinness of BLACKBERRIES IN THE DARK fool you into thinking that there is nothing worthwhile between the covers. This book has more meat in its 58 pages than can be found in any number of books that are two or three times longer.

RUNNING BACK TO LUDIE
RUNNING BACK TO LUDIE is a coming-of-age story about a girl who wants to find herself by finding her mother written in short poems.

SOME KIND OF PRIDE
SOME KIND OF PRIDE is for any kid bucking the system and puts a positive twist on the remark, "you throw like a girl!"

We Asked, You Said
To see everyone's answers to the last Question of the Week: "If you could write your favorite author, what one question would you want to ask him/her?" Check out the responses at We Asked, You Said.

Quote of the Week
When you are aspiring to the highest place, it is honorable to reach the second or even the third rank. --- Cicero

The Senseless War

When you feel frustrated, do not start a fight
You never know
But it can be so
To become a war overnight
War is wrong;do you know why?
It is because
When war someone does
Great people will die
War is a thing so senseless
If only you knew
But after the war
And not more before
You'll know why nonetheless

Tank is cool and sweet
He is really,relly neat
Even mom is spesial too
We have fun as a family,yes we do
Each  of my brothers love mom and my new dad too
Do you know  how much I love you
I love you as much as cake
Now we are a family
God made this  special day for you too
                                           I love you

I have a dream!

I have a dream our world would be better. I have a dream we could live in peace and harmony. I have a dream that there would be no war. I have a dream that now and forever we could be free of the things that happened on that sad, sad, sad day in September.

Hey! I just love your website and newsletter! I would like to recommend a book for kids the ages 10-14. It's called Homeless Bird and it's by Gloria Whelan.It's about a 13 yr. old girl who has to leave the house to get married to someone she never met. The man she ends up marrying is very sick and dies. Now she has to make it by being a widow. It's very,very,very good

* * * * *

I really like to read I read so much and I write a lot too!  My favorite are The Baby-sitters Club. I really like your home page.  It's really fun!!!<

* * * * *

First, I liked your website!
    If anyone likes to read mystery stories and poetries, I suggest u to read the book AND THEN THERE WERE NONE or TEN LITTLE INDIANS (this book has 2 names), by Agatha Christie. It is not a thick book, but it was great. This book talks about a series murder of ten strangers who had been invited on an Island. None of them survived, and their death was followed by the poetry on the Island.

* * * * *

I love reading! The recent books that I have read are:

Missouri School  Days****:This book is about a very smart girl that moves to Missouri from North Dakota and feels very left out when she goes to school. Finally, she finds a girl that is equally as smart as her and they play with eachother for the rest of the year.

Goosebumps  Piano Lessons Can Be Murder*****:This is about a  boy that moves into a new house and finds a piano in his attic.He decides to take piano lessons and finds out that his piano teacher has taken the hands off of all of his students and put them on ghosts to play piano music more beautifully. His parent don't believe him so they take him to a psychiatrist and she doesn't believe him either. Finally, he quits piano lessons and life is pretty much normal again.

* * * * *

I've read A Wrinkle in Time, do you think I should read A Wind in the Door and the rest of the series? See, I do these things called reactions in my class. They are like reports that we do on each book. We have to do five reactions each trimester to get an A in reading. If I don't get an A on anything they'll freak out.

* * * * *

I totally loved your book.It totally helped me. There is this really mean boy in my class and he really bugs me. But now I know what to do! I think it is trully kind of you to do something this nice for somebody that you have no idea who they are! I just want to say thanks because I think somebody who wants to help others with there problems by writing a book rules!!!!!!!!!!

Your review of a Smart Girl's Guide to Boys:
I was thinking earlier about getting this book, debating on wether I should because I do feel rushed or not because it's a bunch of balony.  Your summary and honest opinion has really helped me to decide that I am going to get this book.

I love to read... My favorite book is Clifford the big dog.
