A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

The wormkids are getting ready to celebrate Halloween soon. Part of getting ready is deciding what costume they want to wear. My sister, Faye Belle, is having a huge Halloween party at her house, and the kids all want to wear a neat costume to it. They decided they would all make their own costumes. They did not want to buy them. To help them decide on a good costume, they decided to read some Halloween books. That way, they can use the characters in the books as ideas for Halloween costumes.

Besides getting costume ideas, the wormkids also love reading spooky stories. They know that the Halloween stories are not real, so they do not get scared. However, they do love to read about monsters, scary creatures, ghosts, and witches. If you like to read that type of book, you may want to check out the books we have reviewed for the site in our Halloween Round-Up of books. That way, you can decide if you want to read the book for yourself.

Now for this week's news...

--Booker T. Worm

BOOK REVIEWS:

A HOLE IN THE WORLD
Paul Shackleford got himself into some trouble. It began with a lie, innocent at first, that ended up being serious. His dad has decided to teach him a lesson.

Will Paul really learn the lessons his father intended him to? Read A HOLE IN THE WORLD to find out.

FREEDOM BEYOND THE SEA
Our reviewer Ashley says: I especially liked this book because right now we're learning about Christopher Columbus and other famous explorers in history class, and I think that they're interesting to learn about. FREEDOM BEYOND THE SEA was also very interesting as it gave lots of information about the ways Jews were treated in Europe long ago ---which up until now I didn't know anything about.

ANGEL ON THE SQUARE
ANGEL ON THE SQUARE brings history alive in the form of a fictional story. The book is history that is very relevant to our world today, but it is mostly the story of a little girl who grows up in the midst of terrible events beyond the control of anyone, even the Tsar.

We Asked, You Said
To see everyone's answers to the last Question of the Week: "If you could write your favorite author, what one question would you want to ask him/her?" Check out the responses at We Asked, You Said.

Quote of the Week
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore.  Dream.  Discover. --- Mark Twain

I really love "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman. They are such GREAT books! I've been seeing a lot of recommendations for them on the newsletter, and they are GREAT! My friend read them and she loved them too. She likes the kind of books I do. Another great series is the "Acorna" series by Anne MacCaffrey and Margaret Ball. There are four books, and their really good. If you liked "His Dark Materials" I think you would like the "Acorna" series too.

I'm usually not a very "big" reader mostly im a writer but this one book called "Joey Pigza loses control" is awesome, funny, and its better than any book I've ever read, anyways a newbery honor book! It is written by Jack Gantos even though I havent finished so far, Joey Pigza's mom and dad got divoriced and so he went to stay with his dad for the whole summer, he has to wear a patch to keep him from being wild, and he has a dog Pablo, anyways he has a really good arm and so his dad has a baseball team--- so far Joey has gotten them to the semifinals!!! It's a really great book so go to your nearest library and pick it up!!

I just wanted to say that I love the Harry Potter series. I am so addicted to Harry Potter and friends!! I bet I have at least half of the Harry Potter merchandise that Warner Bros. Has made. If anyone needs a good book to read, the Harry Potter series is the best! I have all the books on J.K. Rowling's interviews and stuff. I have all books made on Harry Potter from what I know. You really should try Harry Potter!!

I just wanted to tell everyone (that doesn't already know) that this is a GREAT series!!! The name of it is "The Death Gate Cycle" and the authors' names are Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The series consists of seven great books. The first book (which got me hooked) is called "Dragon Wing". If ya like the "Harry Potter" series or the "Lords of the Rings" series (if ya like fantasy), you'll like this!!! Here's a little preview for those who want insight:

"Ages ago, sorcerers of unmatched power sundered a world into four realms- sky, stone, fire, and sea- then vanished. Over time the magic weakened. Magicians learned to work spells only in their own realms and forgot the others. Now only those few who have survived the Labyrinth and traversed the Death Gate know of the presence of all four realms... and even they have not unraveled all the mysteries of their severed world."

                    Trust me. It's great!!!!
