A NOTE FROM BOOKER
Hello!
Last night my best friend came over to my house to show me some great magic tricks he had been learning. His name is Book Mark, and one of his favorite magicians was Harry Houdini. Houdini was a famous man who used to be able to escape from any trap a person could put him in. No one was able to figure out how he was able to perform his tricks. I asked Book Mark if he had read any books about Houdini since he sounded like a really interesting person to read about. Book Mark suggested a great book called HOUDINI, and even brought a copy of it to me to borrow. When I went to bed, I started to read it, and I found it to be a great book. If you are interested in magic, you might want to read about this most famous magician. Book Mark says he wishes he could be as good of a magician as Houdini, so someone would write a book about him.
Now for this week's news...

Question of the Week
Here's this week's Question of the Week:
What did you think about the Harry Potter movie?
Send your answer to YouSaid@kidsreads.com.
Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online! Tell your
friends to submit their answer to the question of the week.
Hanukkah Feature
Hanukkah's most important ritual revolves around creating light --- lighting the menorah. Books are a great way to "en-lighten" yourself and immerse yourself in tradition. Books also make wonderful gifts for Hanukkah. Kidsreads has gathered together some terrific Hanukkah books, both about the season and about Jewish traditions and history.
My America Series
The MY AMERICA series are designed for readers age 7-10. They tell the stories of fictional boys and girls that lived during an earlier time in our country's history. The characters will live on in future books of this series. Be sure to check out the reviews, the author info, and a special scramble puzzle!
Harry Potter Movie Poll
Have you answered our Harry Potter Movie Poll? So far over 1,800 kids did! If you have not yet voted, get your mouse moving!
BOOK REVIEWS:
THE CHRISTMAS BARN
You will want to read THE CHRISTMAS BARN to discover how the Dockery family face up to their troubles and show how it's what's inside you that counts, not how much trouble you have.
SISTER SPLIT
Ivy, 11, and her sister Lacey, 15, have always gotten along fairly well. Ivy even thought they liked each other. But she's thinking that one over again. If parents can divorce, why can't sisters? What will happen? You'll have to read SISTER SPLIT to find out.
We Asked, You Said

Quote of the Week
One problem with gazing too frequently into the past is that we may turn around to find the future has run out on us. ---- Unknown

***** One book that I really enjoyed and I think other kids would enjoy is T*Witches: The Power of Two. It's about two girls named Camryn and Alexandra, better known as Cam and Alex. Anyway, they are twins separted at birth. But they're not normal twins...they're witches, the babies of the great Ileana. But Ileana doesn't feel they're safe, because Lord Thantos, Ileana's brother, is after them. Ileana is afraid of that alone, but Lord Thantos also killed Cam's and Alex's father. Moving on, Alex and Cam were given to two families. Alex works at a theme park called Big Sky, and Cam just hangs out in her home town with her friends. And in the book, there's a famous singer, named Maraleigh. In the begining, she disapears at Cam's soccer game. When Cam and her family are on vacation at Big Sky, she meets Alex. But to find out the rest...you'll have to read the book!
***** I had recently read a great book that I thought other people would love. Its a young adult novel, entitled, "Boston Jane". The author had previously won the Caldecott last year for her previous novel, "Our Only May Amelia". Both are good and interesting period pieces to read, but I thoroughly enjoyed Boston Jane.
***** I have a couple of favorite authors. My number 1 favorite is............ probably a tie beetween J.K. Rowling and Jerry Spinnelli. I obviosly like Rowling because of her Harry Potter novels and I have done reaserch on her and the books on your AMAZING website! In school we watched a video on Spinnelli and even read ( in our reading anthology book ) portions from his autobiogriphy "Knots In My Yo-Yo String". My teacher loves his books and reccomends them. My favorite books ( besides Harry Potter ) are:
1. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
2. Windcatcher by Avi
3. Skellig by David Almond

It's about a girl named Anastasia who has to take over because her mom is in California and her brother Sam and her father are stuck at home by themselves. Sam gets the chicken pox and the girl can't go to school because her dad can't stay home. You'll have to read it for the rest of the info.
