A NOTE FROM BOOKER
Hello!
Many of you e-mail me at BookerTWorm@aol.com with your suggestions and questions. Here at kidsreads.com we write reviews of the latest books that are hitting the shelves. We don't publish books, so we don't have any to send out. We usually get one copy of a book from the publisher and that's the one that we write a review from.
One of the questions I get asked a lot is "how do I buy this book?" We do not sell books at kidsreads.com, but if you are interested in buying a book you've read a review of here, ask your parents to go to amazon.com and check out the price. Or you can always check your local library if you don't have money to spend! Libraries love bookworms.
One last note about e-mail... I get thousands of e-mails every week and it's impossible to answer all of them right away... otherwise I'd never be able to read these great books and tell you about them! Please be patient with me and I'll respond to your e-mails as soon as I can.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's move on to what we all love best.... books!
--Booker T. Worm
Question of the Week
Here's this week's Question of the Week:
Are you asking for books this holiday season? If so, which ones would make you happy?
Send your answer to YouSaid@kidsreads.com. Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online! Tell your friends to submit their answer to the question of the week.

Royal Diaries Series
THE ROYAL DIARIES, based on the lives of real princesses and other royalty, was the first of Scholastic's Dear America collections to shift it's focus beyond the United States. Among the diaries featured are those of teenage girls from England, France, Russia, and Angola who played an important role in their country's history.
Hanukkah Feature
Hanukkah is a holiday about how unshakable faith triumphed in the struggle for personal and religious freedom, as it has so many times throughout Jewish history. Celebrate Hanukkah with this great selection of Hanukkah books.
'Tis The Season To Be Reading!
Christmas shouldn't be celebrated at the Mall. The season is not about stressing over what to buy your best friend or pleading with your parents for a Nimbus 2000. The holiday is about love and sharing --- not giving and getting. That's why we here at Kidsreads have made this round-up of great holiday and winter-themed books. If you belong to a religion that doesn't celebrate Christmas --- or don't belong to any religion at all --- you can still get into the spirit and meaning of the holiday. Reading with someone you love is great a way to share the best presents of all --- love and laughter.
Best of 2001
It's always hard to choose the ten best books of the year, when there are so many great ones to choose from! This year it seemed an even more awesome task: the events of September 11th and the ongoing war have put everything in the world into a new perspective. But after hours of brainstorming (and bickering), Kidsreads came up with a list of the books that made us cry, laugh...and believe. We hope that we inspire your must-read lists and your holiday wish-lists.
Harry Potter Movie Poll
Have you answered our Harry Potter Movie Poll? Over 2,800 kids have answered the poll so far. We decided to leave it up until December 14th, so get clicking!
BOOK REVIEWS:
TOM CRINGLE: The Pirate and the Patriot
There are many reasons to read TOM CRINGLE: The Pirate and the Patriot. Author Hausman is really good at explaining history. In this book, you learn about The War of 1812 and the British navy from the English point of view, and the history of slavery in England. TOM CRINGLE also teaches you about duty and how one young man rises above the expectations laid out for him. An excellent and engrossing adventure tale!
MARIA'S STORY 1773
MARIA'S STORY 1773 includes several sections of history about Williamsburg, Virginia, printing, children of the time, and what happened to the real Maria and her family. It has lots of photographs, and the story it tells is well-researched and accurate. You will want to find out how Maria copes with the tragic and dangerous things that happen in her life. And you will see how very unfair life could be to little girls in those days, even when they were smarter than their brothers!

Though many people died, and only a few lucky people lived,
For you to live, my life i would have gived....(gave)
The terroists killed children, husbands, and wives,
Just for their country, they have taken our country's lives.
The 2 Twin Brothers now lie in the streets,
On that day, people fled out of their seats.
To believe this has happened in our country is true,
Why couldn't those firefighters have saved you?
More than 100 people died, I know for a fact,
If you were there at the time, quickly you would pack.
To even think about all this evil people could do,
It is very bad, and it killed you!
I really wish you were here today,
But instead just last month you were put to lay.
To lay in your grave where i would never see you again,
To just think about this, brings me pain.
I loved you with all my heart and soul,
Now in my heart, there is a huge hole.
Who could do all this damage and debris
Although I am glad it didnt happen to me.
It happened to you, though, How could they do that,
Never again would you and I be able to chat.
As I end this poem with so much heart,
I think that maybe you should do you part....

The LAST BATTLE summary. This summary is not accurate. While Shift starts out trying to take over Narnia he ends up the puppet of the Calormenes used to deceive the Narnian animals as the Calormenes take over. Also some reference should be made to the fact that the story is an allegory of the end times - the summary provided is very trite and does not do C.S. Lewis's work its due credit.
*****
I think the best book is "The winter of red snow." Its the best book ever!

I think everyone should read books by a New Zealand author, David Hill, especially one called Fat, Four Eyed, and Useless. I also think everyone should read a book, also by a NZ author, called Alex, and Anne of Green Gables, and Little Woman.

I'm thankful for my freedom of speech, for freedom of religion, freedom of choice, and well I guess freedom of just being me. People are reacting to what happened on September 11,like how can we be against each other now is our time to unite together not just as a country , but as a big family. This is definetly our time of need and it's wonderful to see our country working together. I like your jokes because they are funny. I think you can write a joke book because they are cool and funny.
From Booker T Worm: Well thank you for the compliment, but I cannot take credit for the jokes included in the newsletter. They come from fellow readers, just like you, so I decided to post your comment in the newsletter for them to read.

Hello. I just got done reading the book "Holes" by: Louis Sachar, for a book report. I loved the whole plot of the story. I found it very interesting. I would of been terrified to be standing in the nest of one of those really poisonous lizard's. Now I know why Louis Sachar won a New Berry Award for that book.
P.S. I loved the book, its on my Christmas List!! :)
*****
I found a mistake in your Harry Potter poll. You spelled Hermione wrong. You spelled it like this: Hermoine You ought to be ashamed of yourselves!
From Booker T Worm: We are duly ashamed and have fixed the typo. Thanks!

Our school library is in crisis! People won't send us a lot of books anymore and all books I like are always on your site. Oh, and Ann M.Martin is just like one of the best authors! I can't believe how good her Californian Diary books are. Every Monday and Friday- Our Libraray Days- I will just DIE if I can't find those Californian Diary books. I hope that you will be able to make more Best Reads Lists because I LOVE printing them out and the i show it to our Library teacher and then he might be able to order/get it.

I just wrote to say what I think about books. Books just take you away into another world. If you've read over 50 books than you've been to more than 50 planets. I LOVE books that have magic and fairies and those kind of creatures. Also books that are about animals, that's why I want to start reading Brian Jaques's Redwall.
