Lots of Tasty Reads to Enjoy
|
All the leaves in New York City are now in full autumn mode. They look beautiful, but they’re quickly falling to the ground. My son will be crunch-crunch-crunching along as he goes trick-or-treating tonight. Like the various colors of the leaves, we have lots of different kinds of books featured this month on Kidsreads.com. Read on, and I’m sure you’ll find one that you’ll love.
This weekend, as you munch on your Halloween candy, curl up with a spooky tale from Neil Gaiman. THE GRAVEYARD BOOK tells the tale of a boy who lives in a graveyard. Ironically, it's safer for the protagonist, Nobody Owens, inside the cemetery with lots of ghosts than outside. You can see a video of Gaiman reading from the book here. October was a big month for series titles. INKDEATH, the final book in Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart trilogy, finishes up the story of characters that can travel in and out of worlds simply by reading books aloud. I have met Funke, and she is just completely charming to listen to with her German accent. She has a little writing house on her property where she writes her stories. She surrounds herself with gifts that she has been sent by kids for inspiration. You can see a video of her at the house and hear her talk more about writing here. The fourth installment in Patrick Carman's The Land of Elyon series is now available in stores. In STARGAZER, Alexa and Yipes are stranded in a strange community known as The Five Stone Pillars. Find out if they will be able to defeat the darkness descending on the land. Fantasy fans will find their fix with these fabulous reads.
Animal lovers will want to check out the new series Starlight Animal Rescue by Dandi Daley Mackall. These books follow a group of foster children living with a very special couple --- and a farm full of animals needing some TLC. Have you ever wondered how spies go undetected? Ever needed to send a secret message --- or crack a code? Find out how the real undercover agents do their work and polish your own wily skills with SPYOLOGY. Just don’t use it to sneak any of your siblings’ Halloween candy! Geronimo Stilton sure wishes he had SPYOLOGY with him on his latest adventure. An old friend turns out to be a secret agent, and he wants Geronimo’s help in solving a mystery. Will our favorite mouse save the day in GERONIMO STILTON, SECRET AGENT? Last but not least, be sure to have a laugh with the two latest books in the Amelia Bedelia series. Hilarious hijinks occur when Amelia Bedelia befriends a kitten in AMELIA BEDELIA AND THE CAT, and the fun continues in the Thanksgiving-themed AMELIA BEDELIA TALKS TURKEY. For more great reads, check out our Cool New Books and New in Paperback roundups and our latest reviews. And don’t forget to answer our poll and question about your favorite books being made into movies.
A big congratulations to the winners of our BONE #8: TREASURE HUNTERS giveaway. Be sure to check out our current contest for the Goosebumps: HorrorLand series. You could win a book signed by R.L. Stine!
Wishing you a happy fall and many bookish delights. And hey, do not, I repeat, do NOT eat ALL your candy tonight. It would not make for a great Halloween memory!

|
THE GRAVEYARD BOOK written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack --- who has already killed Bod's family.
