My favorite movie based on a book would have to be The Count of Monte Cristo. I know the movie was an entirely different story but it was a movie based on a book, though it was only loosely based on the book. It was still based on the book and had the same plot line, when you get right down to it. It was well-done, though the interpretation could have been better. By the way, it was women who wrote Harry Potter for the big screen.
