Name one book that did not look interesting to you when you first saw it, that became one you really liked.

Growing Wings by Laurel Winter

* * * * *

Truth be told, when I was eight (I'm now twelve) and my mom gave me Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, it looked pretty boring. I mean, the cover had him catching this ball with --- is that wings?  Pleeeeze. But hey, I tried and have now read each book in the series seven times ... you fill in the blank!

* * * * *

Two books that I really liked but looked boring (and hardly anyone I know whose my age liked them) are Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.

* * * * *

Don't Let Me Die! is the title of a book that didn't look very interesting. But it was a great book!

* * * * *

I once saw a book called Ruby Holler. I had gotten it from the Scholastic book list from school, and I thought I should give it a try. I didn't read it for a few weeks after I got it! But when I read the first chapter, I loved the book. By the third chapter I was already hooked on it. The reason is probably because I like to read books about children who are in hard times, because I like to see how they can handle them and stay put. It really teaches you that you judge everything, not just a book, by the inside of it, not the outside.

* * * * *

The Outsiders

* * * * *

A Series of Unfortunate Events

* * * * *

OK, to me the book Petey didn't look that interesting at first, but once I started to read it I just couldn't put it down! It was so heartwarming!! I loved that book and I'll always treasure it!

* * * * *

"The Seventh Tower" series did not look interesting to me at first, but I liked it. I recommend this book to anybody who likes Harry Potter.

* * * * *

The Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen

* * * * *

One book that didn't look interesting was the book called Cages by Peg Kehret. I really enjoyed it.

* * * * *

At first, I didn't think the Lemony Snicket books would be too great, because I thought they were just about bad things happening to orphans. But as I began to read them, I realized that there was much more to the books than that. Lemony Snicket is now one of my favorite authors ever!

* * * * *

Where The Red Fern Grows didn't look good to me because I'm not into hunting. When we had to read it for school, I thought "Oh, great just another dumb hunting story." It turned out to be a really sad but happy book, and I think anyone would like it --- even if you hate hunting!

* * * * *

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Oliver Twist.

* * * * *

Nancy Drew and the Crooked Banister didn't look too good when I got it from my library at school. But after I read the first three chapters, it was very interesting. It turned out to be a great book.

* * * * *

The Obernewtyn Chronicles and The Song of the Lioness Quartet.

* * * * *

Holes by Louis Sachar

* * * * *

Dave at Night by Gail Carson Levine. I mean, I did not want a book like a crowd, you know, but I hear a lot of people read the book and I read the whole thing at my Grandmother's (which is a very good place to read). It is set in an orphanage with a party. Very interesting but not the best cover!!!

* * * * *

The first two books in "A Series of Unfortunate Events"

* * * * *

The Fire Cat by Esther Averill

* * * * *

Holes. I watched the movie and then I read the book. I loved it! Boy, do I wish I had it.

* * * * *

I didn't like the look of Judy Blume's Forever and Just As Long As We're Together, but I really enjoyed them!!!

* * * * *

I thought that the book Going Home was going to be a bad book, but it was good.

* * * * *

Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs by Betsy Hearne

* * * * *

I didn't like the looks of the book Stowaway at first, but I read it and I really liked it. Stowaway is by Karen Hesse.

* * * * *

At first, when I got Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for a gift and read the first chapter, I completely hated it. But after my mom read it to me (I was in grade 1) I completely fell in love with the book and read it again and again.

* * * * *

One book that didn't look very interesting to me was Silent to the Bone, but I read it anyway. Now I have read it again and again. It's one of my favorite books!

* * * * *

Harry Potter didn't look interesting when I first saw it, actually! I thought it looked stupid. (This, of course, is before everyone had loved it ... it was 1999 ... no one had heard of it then) But thankfully I was bored during the summer and my mom had bought the first one for birthday presents, so I picked it up and read it. Now Harry Potter is my favorite book of all time!!!

* * * * *

One book that did not look interesting when I first saw it was The Indian in the Cupboard. But when I read it, it was amazing.

* * * * *

The one called Charlotte's Web.

* * * * *

Holes. The name made it sound boring, but my best friend demanded that I read it. She said that it was a good book, so I read it and it turned out it was good and sad at the same time.

* * * * *

Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed

* * * * *

I think Sticks by Joan Bauer didn't look too interesting on the cover, but I knew that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. But I mean, who would want to read a book with a pig and a nine ball on the front of the cover? I couldn't believe that it ended up to be one of my favorites!!!!!

* * * * *

I thought that The School Story wasn't going to be good, but when I read it I loved it! Now I am taking out every book written by Andrew Clements. I hope Andrew Clements never stops making books.

* * * * *

Harry Potter. For some reason I hated those books. Then I saw everyone else reading them and I thought, "Wow, I would really enjoy these books." And I saw the movie, so that got me interested in the books as well. Surprising as it seems, I have read all the books so far!

* * * * *

I didn't like Sea Star.

* * * * *

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

* * * * *

One book that did not look interesting was Bad Girls. I got fooled by the title and the cover.

* * * * *

I did not think that Takeoffs and Landings by Margaret Peterson Haddix would be a good book. Now that I have read it, I found it to be one of my favorite books.

* * * * *

The Bad Beginning, Book 1 in "A Series of Unfortunate Events."

* * * * *

I thought Harry Potter was just a geek book, but when I saw my friends reading it, I said to myself "Maybe I will try it out. I ended up reading all of them each in 4 days!

* * * * *

The Tree That Sat Down

* * * * *

George Washington's Socks

* * * * *

Little Women

* * * * *

Judy Moody

* * * * *

The Secret of Nimh. I thought the book was dumb, but it turned out sad in some parts and adventurous at other times. It was actually kind of cool.

* * * * *

Glubbslyme by Jacqueline Wilson

* * * * *

Catherine, Called Birdy by Karen Cushman

* * * * *

Ghost Cadet by Elaine Marie Alphin

* * * * *

An encyclopedia set

* * * * *

When I first saw Hoot by Carl Hiaasen, I thought it would be soooo boring. The summary was even boring. I mean, it involved animals and that was good, but I didn't think it would be even a little bit interesting. I gave the book a shot anyway, and I loved it soooo much that I read it again.

* * * * *

Holes, because the cover looks ugly, but it is a good book.

* * * * *

I didn't want to read Alanna: The First Adventure or the rest of "The Song of the Lioness Quartet" series by Tamora Pierce, but my friend insisted and I finished the series in five days!

* * * * *

I love An Old-Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott, but it sounded so boring that I never would have read it if I hadn't been really bored one day at home with no other books to read.

* * * * *

The Egypt Game by Zilpha Keatley Snyder

* * * * *

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. It wasn't peaking my interest by the cover. But when I opened to the first page, I couldn't put it down. It is used in my classroom annually.

* * * * *

Coraline by Neil Gaiman

* * * * *

Best Enemies by Kathleen Leverich

* * * * *

Matt's Million by Andrew Norriss

* * * * *

Milo's Hat Trick by Jon Agee.

* * * * *

The book that didn't look interesting to me when I first saw it was Edge by Diane Tullson. The book is about a troubled high school girl, Marlie, who has to try to stop her new friends from making a horrible mistake.

* * * * *

Treasure at the Heart of the Tanglewood. This looked like a fantasy book, but turned out to be much more. It's a search for identity and friendship, a thoughtful look at growing up and finding parents. I really think teens should read it.

* * * * *

The Family Under the Bridge. I thought it would be boring.

* * * * *

No More Dead Dogs by Gordon Korman

* * * * *

A Series of Unfortunate Events #5, The Austere Academy.

* * * * *

When I first saw A Year Down Yonder, I thought that it was going to be a boring book. Since I love to read, I thought I knew a boring book when I saw one. BOY was I WRONG!! I really liked this book. It was one of my favorites!

* * * * *

A Series of Unfortunate Events #1, The Bad Beginning, didn't look interesting, but once I started reading it I loved it! I have read all 10.

* * * * *

Beware, Princess Elizabeth by Carolyn Meyer
Mary, Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer

* * * * *

The Harry Potter and American Girls series.

* * * * *

The Witches by Roald Dahl

* * * * *

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

* * * * *

This Isn't About the Money by Sally Warner

* * * * *

A Series of Unfortunate Events

* * * * *

When I first saw The Dwelling Place, I didn't like it. But when I read it, it came to be the best book I've ever read of. It was written by Catherine Cookson and talks about a 15-year-old girl left with nine other siblings when her parents died because of a contagious disease in Europe.

* * * * *

I thought Shrek! was the stupidest book in the world, but now it's the boom!!!!

* * * * *

The Kingdoms & the Elves of the Reaches by Robert Stanek. I didn't think I would like it at first, but now I really like the books. It is the best!!!

* * * * *

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry really was a great book once I read it. That's why they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover."

* * * * *

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech sat on my shelf for over a year before I picked it up in desperation. It's now one of my absolute favorites.

* * * * *

Mick Harte Was Here by Barbara Park.

* * * * *

Harry Potter, because I looked at the cover and said, "Oh, this looks like a kiddie book," but then I read it and I said that this is the best book I have ever read and know I am crazy about Harry Potter!!! I am going to be Hermione for Halloween!!!!! I am on the fourth book!!!

* * * * *

* * * * *

The Lord of the Rings

* * * * *

* * * * *

The first time I saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I thought it sounded like a boring book, but it's now my favorite book I've read so far. I've watched both of the films and I'm reading the second book.
