Share a story of how someone inspired you to read.

My mom got me into Harry Potter books and I got them on tape and I enjoy them a lot.

*****

I would have to say that it was my sister who really inspired me to read. She was always saying how fun it was, and she always read to me when I was younger!

P.S. My favorite books are Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and A Blood Red Horse!

*****

My fifth grade teacher read me a lot of good books and introduced a lot of good books to me, so from there, I loved to read.

My mom was always reading and she enjoyed it a lot. That got me started at a really young age. Now I'm hooked!

*****

My sister inspired me to read by telling me how great books are.

*****

Well, I don't know. The first book that I read was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and after that I start to read a lot of books. Nobody inspired me because in my family, nobody likes to read.

*****

I never really read before and all of my friends did, and so I got into it from them because I wanted to be like them, I guess.

*****

Just reading Harry Potter inspired me to read more. It made reading more fun for me and I tried to read as many books like it as possible.

*****

Actually, my friend reads a lot and one day, I read the back of her book and it was so interesting that I borrowed it from her and read it. From that day on, we've started swapping books. Now I LOVE reading!

*****

I had a friend in sixth grade who let me borrow one of her books. It took me one month to read it. After that book I needed more! I had to be reading something at all times. It made me feel empowered.

My Dad sits on the couch in our living room every night and reads. I see that every night. One day, during library in second grade, I found this really good book. I have read every night in my room ever since then. Sometimes I stay up almost all night reading a good book. I still see my Dad reading and that reminds me how I started to enjoy reading books so much.

My 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Diller, took us down to the library for our school's book fair. I had been looking for a book to read for a while. She said that since I'm at a high level, I should get a thick book. She said The Land of Elyon books by Patrick Carman where good, and she was right.

*****

My fourth grade teacher made a Featured Author Bulletin Board of book jackets each month. Each month there was a new author and I challenged myself to read each book on the bulletin board!

*****

When I was watching TNT, Stephen King's Misery came on. I loved the movie so much that I began reading all of Stephen King's books.

My mother inspires me to read. She thinks I became a great reader at a young age. One night my mom asked me to read to her to make her fall asleep. She loves to listen to the stories and it relaxes her. I enjoyed reading to her as she drifted off into a deep slumber. When I knew she was asleep, I quietly left the room. I was sneaky and stayed up all night eating junk food and watching television. I was very tired the next morning, feeling sick. My mom could not understand why. She inspired me to read the night before, but I learned the hard way to go to my own bed if she fell asleep before me.

*****

Someone who inspired us to read is our teacher, Mrs. Conroy. She is so nice. She really knows what to do when it comes to choosing a book.
