How did you celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America?

Today in my school we listen to the story "Green Eggs and Ham". We also made it in class. The children loved the story very much. Far as I'm concern I could read Dr. Suess stories all the time.

We had a great day celebrating Dr. Suess today. Our 5th grade inclusion class prepared lesson plans for first and second grade students. We came equipped with handmade hats, lesson papers, books and goody bags all prepared by the students. We had a great time with the younger kids. The children with difficulty in reading had enough time to memorize books if needed and did a great job. Following our lesson, we celebrated with colorful cupcakes and snickerdoodle cookies. We thought these sounded like "Suess" things to do.

At our school we got to bring nutritious snacks and a low fat fruit drink to school. We read all day (except when eating our scrumptious lunch). I think our school had the best time with read across America day. I especially enjoyed our NutriGrain chewy bars we had for lunch. The rest of our fabulous lunch included Fat Free yogurt, low fat tomato juice, a 1/2 a cookie, and 3 kiwis. Thank you for your time and I appreciate you listening. Thank You, BookerT. Worm! You're my hero!!! 13, England

At my school, Monday we took a Reading Log home. On every night we had to read for at least 30 minutes. After we read we had to write down on the reading log how long we read, the title of the book, the author, and comments. At the bottom of the reading log me had to put our own signature's andat least one of our parents signature's. If we turned in our reading log in on Friday,we got a icce popcicle. I got cherry. Also on Friday we had a man (from 'Purity' dairy farm) read us a story and gave us each a ice cream sandwich. In honor of the "Cat in The Hat",we got to wear hats to school on Friday. We had a lot of fun.

Dear dr.suess happy birthday.

My school is celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday by writing, or rhyming like him. We already have a WINNER!!! Do you know who it is? The winner is in 3rd grade. Her poem is called, "The Cat In The Hat Visits My Class". She is really good. I am in fourth grade. Can you believe that? She can really write like Dr. Suess himself! Just listen:
To the bathroom went my class,
my class.
My friend and I did not have to go.
So who turns up?
Why, it's the Cat in the Hat.
Pat and I say, ''Well," to that.
The Cat in the Hat says,"Let's play, play, play
for the rest of the day!"
He plays with the lights,
until it looked like night.
He empties everyone's bag
while waving a flag.
He dances on our desks,
while writing on our tests.
Then he decides to take a little rest.
We say, "What a MESS!"
He turns the water on
and sings a silly song.
Just then my teacher walks in.
The Cat in the Hat hides
then slips outside,
without saying goodbye.
We look at eachother and grin,
me and my friend.
Maybe one day he''ll come back again.
Well, she won. The prize was to put the poem in the newspaper and be published. On who's birthday? Dr. Suess's, that's who. I hope she smiles and shows off to everyone that she was the winner.

I am the Mom of a 3rd grader (who loves to read) in Pennsylvania. For "Read Across America," our school is celebrating in a big way. We have invited parents, grandparents, family members, members of the school board, and prominent members of our community to come in and read to our children on this special day. The kids will be doing a special reading activity everyday and reading a book every night which is documented by a parent and a signed form sent in the following day. The kids are bringing in a favorite beach towel to read on one day, wearing their favorite hat to read another day, etc. Our PTA kicked off the week prior to this reading celebration with PTA Founder's Day and a Scholastic Book Fair. We are working hard to instill a love of reading in our children. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to share our love of reading with you.

So I hope you take time and read this one , because my school still reads his books they have the set.
