This
special edition book was first published in 1997 (just in time for
the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of C.S. Lewis's birth).
It has 19 full-color illustrations by the original illustrator, a
satin ribbon book mark and gold-foil stamping. It's a real treasure,
now repackaged for the 50th anniversary of the publication of THE
LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.
While visiting a family friend (in order to escape the violence of
London during World War II) four British children --- Lucy, Edmund,
Susan and Peter --- stumble upon a magical wardrobe in an otherwise
empty room. As they explore the wardrobe, the children discover it
is a porthole to the fantasy realm of Narnia, a land cursed by the
White Witch to endure eternal winter. In this strange new world they
meet a cast of amazing creatures including Aslan, the noble talking
lion that breaks the witch's spell and helps the children overthrow
their enemies.
This deluxe edition of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE also features
19 new full-color plates by Pauline Baynes, the original illustrator
of The Chronicles of Narnia, first published in the 1950s.
C.S. Lewis gallops through a swirl of human emotions (greed, fear,
regret and bravery, to mention only a few) for a robust adventure
you won't soon forget.
