STRANGER IN RIGHT FIELD
A Peach Street Mudders Story

by Matt Christopher
illustrated by Bert Dodson
Little Brown & Company
ISBN: 0316106771
Ages 7-9
64 pages

Alfie Maples is usually the starting right fielder for the Peach Street Mudders. In this book, though, Alfie gets to play coach for a bit when a new player named Roberti joins the team. Alfie is baffled by why the coach brought this new kid in to play, because Alfie doesn't seem to have any knack for playing baseball --- he can't catch a ball very well or bat either. But Alfie works hard to help Roberti improve his batting and catching, making him feel like a part of the team. Soon Alfie begins to wonder if the much-improved Roberti is thinking of trying out for right fielder. Could Alfie's generosity have cost him a position that he loves to play?
