Jeff Gordon entered his first car race when he was only five years old --- a quarter midget car competition. He even wore a racing helmet and uniform just like the professionals. From those first childhood adventures, he moved on to go-carts, sprint cars, and midget cars. In 1991, he graduated to stock-car racing and began building a reputation as a championship driver. After a few years of competing on some of the lesser known race circuits, he was finally able to enter the Winston Cup ring. In 1995, he was the youngest driver of the modern era ever to win the coveted Winston Cup. Two years later he won the Winston Cup championship for the second time, and proved that he was going to be a major force in the race car world.
