For decades, author and illustrator Maurice Sendak has enchanted children with his timeless tales and fanciful artwork. He led us through the jungles of the imagination to where the wild things are, revealed what fantastical happenings occur at late hours in the night kitchen, and even explained the best time of year to enjoy a bowl of chicken soup with rice. He tickles the imagination once again in MOMMY?, teaming up with renowned children's author Arthur Yorinks (HAPPY BEES!, QUACK!) and paper engineer extraordinaire Matthew Reinhart (Encyclopedia Prehistorica, CINDERELLA: A POP-UP FAIRY TALE) to create a three-dimensional adventure full of charm, laughs and a couple of spine-tingling chills and thrills.
MOMMY? is a spooky but sweet and fun-filled story that follows a pajama-clad boy through an eerie old house in search of one special person. As he wanders through, frightful monsters of all shapes and sizes leap out from the pages, each with their best scary face on. But, as with any determined child with only one thing on his mind, he cooly asks his question to these far-from-motherly characters before wreaking a little havoc of his own. It's not until after he unravels a mummy, unscrews the head of Frankenstein's monster and "depantses" a werewolf that he finally finds who he's looking for --- Mommy!
Sendak melds his distinctive and delightfully dark illustrations with Reinhart's stunningly intricate pop-up art and Yorinks's heartwarmingly quirky scenario to create a playful and captivating tale in which a brave and mischievous little boy one-ups a houseful of menacing monsters.
