BOYS AGAINST GIRLS
by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Dell Yearling
ISBN: 0440411238
Ages 8-12
What's an abaguchie? Nobody knows. It's nothing anybody has ever seen before. Some people think they have spotted something but they just can't describe it. Even the newspaper reports these sightings, so they must be real.
That's why Caroline believes Wally when he tells her to be careful because the abaguchie is prowling around again. He even tells her that Mr. Oldaker has a secret stash of abaguchie bones in the cellar of his bookstore. The boys decide that they will capture the abaguchie. After all, boys are smarter than girls, right? The girls know better than that, and they are determined to foil the capture. But what happens when Caroline and Wally both see two yellow eyes, three feet above the ground, watching them from the woods? Is it the abaguchie? Do they really want it? And does it matter whether girls or boys are smarter?
