Dinah's father is a union organizer, uniting workers in 1886 Chicago. Because of his role in planning a protest march of 80,000 workers at Haymarket Square, Dinah's father is imprisoned and taken away from all the action. Dinah does everything she can to get him out, even though it means facing the angry crowds that turn into the Haymarket Riot. This piece of history, and the focus on how African Americans took part in it, makes for an exciting read.
