STORM RESCUE: Sunita
Wild at Heart, No. 6

by Laurie Halse Anderson
Pleasant Company
ISBN: 1584850531
Ages 8-10
128 pages

One of Sunita's favorite patients at Dr. Mac's Wild At Heart clinic is Lucy, an elderly Siamese cat with diabetes. Sunita cat-sits with Lucy, too, so she knows that Lucy lives in a section of town that isn't safe during storms. Ten years ago, that part of town was completely flooded.

All of a sudden, the animals in town start acting weird, and Sunita hears the weather lady say a hurricane has veered away from the Carolinas and is heading for the northern coastline    --- right where Sunita lives! Drenching rain and wind begin battering her town and everyone stays indoors. Except for Dr. Mac and her volunteers. They have to rescue animals that are in danger because of the storm.

Sunita is especially worried about Lucy, because Lucy's owner refuses to leave her house. Residents have been warned that this low-lying part of town may flood, but she won't leave until eight feet of water covers everything except the roof. The rescuers finally get Lucy's owner out, but Lucy hides from them in the attic and they have to leave her.

Sunita knows that Lucy trusts her and she must do something to save the cat's life. But what can Sunita do when the whole street looks like a wild river, and Sunita can't swim? You'll have to read Book 6 to find out what happens to Sunita and Lucy in this exciting tale from the WILD AT HEART Series.    --- Reviewed by Tamara Penny
