As a longtime horror fan, I have been looking for a new middle grade horror series that combines the charm and fun of popular series like THE ADVENTURER’S GUIDE TO SUCCESSFUL ESCAPES and LOOK OUT FOR THE FITZGERALD TROUTS with the horror of the Goosebumps series. Luckily for me, writer Joe Ballarini has just the series for young horror fans with the THE BABYSITTER’S GUIDE TO MONSTER HUNTING, the first book in a new series from Katherine Tegen Books!  After this debut, readers of all ages are sure to keep coming back for more!

"With wild chase scenes and plenty of action, this series starter is a perfect read for reluctant readers, bored babysitters and anyone looking for a horror-filled thrill!"

As all kids know, In the shadows lurk wicked creatures that seek to steal and eat children when their parents are away. When parents are home, a bond between parent and child safeguards children from the darkness. Unfortunately for innocent kids, however, parents love going out to dinner parties and date nights. In addition to it being absolutely lovey-dovey and gross when parents go out, they leave their kids completely exposed to all the creepy crawlies that go bump in the night. That’s why babysitters are called in --- the secret protectors of children from the fear-inspiring, sharp-clawed and drooling beasties looking for a little morsel to snatch up. Now these monsters have to go toe-to-toe with the age old Order of Babysitters.

If you ask me, this is the perfect gig for any adventure-seeking babysitter looking to make an extra buck. That is, of course, unless you’re teenager Kelly Ferguson, who is just trying to save money for a trip to Summer Camp. Unaware of the Order of Babysitters, Kelly is immediately thrown in over her head when the child she is taking care of is kidnapped.

A messy and rambunctious five-year-old, Jacob runs circles around Kelly until she’s just about had it. But when Baby Jacob is taken from his room by the disgusting henchmen of one of the baddest of the bad boogeymen, Kelly has to learn some things and risk her neck to get him back before the evil Grand Guignol can bring about the Time of Nightmares!

Soon, Kelly is introduced to the Order of the Babysitters and is quickly shown the ropes of monster-hunting and child-caring. The babysitters have to battle an amazing array of monsters, from Toadies and Shadow Monsters to the apparition Cat Lady. Because the organization is organized and effective, it changes the way that Kelly feels about being a babysitter.

With wild chase scenes and plenty of action, this series starter is a perfect read for reluctant readers, bored babysitters and anyone looking for a horror-filled thrill!
