Lowji Discovers America

Thirteen-year-old Lowji Sanjana lives in Bombay, India with his family. Although he has many friends, he has always wanted a pet to love since he isn't allowed to have one in his home. When the family decides to move to America for a chance at a better life, Lowji hopes he finally will be permitted to have a pet of his own --- but no such luck. Now he's even lonelier than before because he misses his friends. What a bummer!

Soon, however, Lowji's landlord, Ms. Crisp, makes summer more enjoyable for Lowji by having pets to solve problems in his apartment complex --- including cats to chase mice, dogs to stop burglars, and goats to keep grass short. Life gets more exciting for him when he finds strange footprints in the woods. Could these belong to a burglar, or an unknown new best friend for Lowji?

Candace Fleming's new book provides perspectives on what life in America might have been like for a family who once lived in a different country. Will Lowji ever adjust to life in America or make new friends? Read this book to find out!
