Artemis Fowl

Series

Artemis Fowl

Set in two sharply contrasting realms --- the aboveground world that humans inhabit and the imaginative underground netherworld where "the People" (otherwise known as fairies, gnomes, goblins and trolls) reside --- the Artemis Fowl series is an interspecies fantasy thrill ride that will keep readers alternately holding their breath in suspense and laughing out loud during many comic moments.

Combining extraordinary hi-tech gadgetry, clever fairy magic and old-fashioned myth, the series pits good against evil in page-turning scenarios that introduce a completely original cast of characters --- from flying fairy police and paranoid centaurs to gassy dwarfs and murderous trolls. Artemis Fowl the Second, the series's human protagonist, is a modern-day child prodigy who is easily the most devious and ingenious member yet of the illustrious Fowl crime family in Ireland. His thirst for gold and penchant for underhanded enterprise leads to his discovery of a whole new class of citizenry that he can exploit --- the technologically advanced fairy world, hidden from human view in a complex underground lair near the Earth's core.

But the fairies prove not to be the easy targets Artemis had envisioned, given their magical powers and advanced technology far superior to that of mere humans. A daring battle of wits and weaponry ensues, with the two sides eventually reaching an uneasy truce and later turning out to be unlikely allies as the series progresses.

Dark humor and barbed insults punctuate the action-packed scenes filled with breathtaking laser battles and dramatic rescue missions.

by Eoin Colfer - Children's, Fiction

Artemis is at boarding school in Ireland when he suddenly receives a plea from his father, who has been kidnapped by the Russian Mafia. As Artemis rushes to his rescue, he is stopped by Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police, but this time, instead of battling the fairies, he is going to have to join forces with them if he wants to save one of the few people in the world he loves.

by Eoin Colfer - Children's, Fiction

When his efforts to broker a deal for the Cube with a powerful businessman go terribly wrong, Artemis Fowl's loyal bodyguard and friend Butler is mortally injured. The only thing that will save him is fairy magic, so once again he must contact his old rival, Holly Short.

by Eoin Colfer - Children's, Fiction

After his last run-in with the fairies, Artemis had his mind wiped of his memories of the world belowground. But they have not forgotten about him. Once again, he must stop the human and fairy worlds from colliding --- only this time, Artemis faces an enemy who may have finally outsmarted him.

by Eoin Colfer - Children's, Fiction

Someone else has unlocked the secrets of the fairy world…and she is only twelve years old. Now, in a race against time, a newly-reformed Artemis Fowl will have to dip into his bag of dirty tricks if he is to save his fairy friends from his latest nemesis, not to mention a power hungry demon warlord who is poised to invade our dimension with his savage army.

by Eoin Colfer - Children's, Fiction

When Artemis Fowl’s mother contracts a life-threatening illness, his world is turned upside down and the only hope for a cure lies in the brain fluid of the silky sifaka lemur. Unfortunately, the animal is extinct due to a heartless bargain Artemis himself made as a younger boy.

by Eoin Colfer - Children's, Fantasy, Fiction

Artemis has committed his entire fortune to a project he believes will save the planet and its inhabitants, both human and fairy. Captain Holly Short is unconvinced, and discovers that Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex, a psychosis common among guilt-ridden fairies --- not humans --- and most likely triggered by Artemis’s dabbling with fairy magic. Symptoms include obsessive-compulsive behavior, paranoia, multiple personality disorder and, in extreme cases, embarrassing professions of love to a certain feisty LEPrecon fairy.

by Eoin Colfer - Adventure, Fantasy, Fiction, Young Adult 10+

The final installment in Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series has arrived, and even boy genius Artemis is at a loss on how to save the day. His archnemesis Opal Koboi has finally figured out a plan for world domination, and this time she has accounted for every possibility.
