The Adventures of Simone & Ajax

Review

The Adventures of Simone & Ajax

Part noir, part comedy, all delightful --- that’s The Adventures of Simone & Ajax. Andrew Pepoy’s comic series is a farcical, funny ride that harkens back to the comics of decades past. It’s like Archie Comics in a way, but also like the zany Saturday-morning cartoons you loved as a kid.

There’s a detective-agency premise (hence the noir) and a whole lot of wacky adventures that result from a case. The best kids comics, of course, are equally entertaining to adults, and The Adventures of Simone & Ajax doesn’t disappoint there, either. There are plenty of inside jokes and references that may or may not fly over the heads of young readers, but adults will chuckle over.

Most of all, The Adventures of Simone & Ajax is a charming comic to read. This collection includes a short intro, a long-form main story (as the duo attempts to crack a major case), and a delightfully odd Christmas story. All are a pleasure to read.
