Things That Make You Go Yuck!: Crooked Critters

Review

Things That Make You Go Yuck!: Crooked Critters

Do you like creepy things? Do you like things that make you say, "Yuck!"? Then this is the perfect book for you. THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO YUCK!: Crooked Critters is packed with information about a whole host of gross critters that are "crooked," that don't play nice. You'll learn about tongue-eating lice (yuck!), birds that smell like cow poop (gross!), and flatworms that attach themselves to snails and grow tentacles filled with larvae (ew!).

The book is divided into six chapters. Each chapter begins with a multiple choice question about a critter that is included in that chapter. The answer, along with some pertinent information, is given at the end of the chapter. Each critter is displayed in a two-page spread, with beautiful color photos, a description of each critter and an insert of additional information.

The author includes a rather lengthy Bibliography, especially considering that the book is rather short. It shows that they really did their homework and they love what they do! The book is one in a series by the publisher.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's packed full of interesting information, most of which will surely make you go, "Yuck!" However, I was a bit surprised to learn that not all of the "crooked critters" are animals or insects. A few plants --- like mistletoe and bladderwort --- were included in the book. It's an interesting and fun read, sure to delight young readers. I don't recommend that you read it right before you eat or right before you go to bed, though!
