Vampirates 2: Tide of Terror

As we return to the pirate ship The Diablo, Cutlass Cate is now second in command to Captain Molucco Wrathe; Cheng Li left the ship to work as a teacher. The 14-year-old Tempest twins, Grace and Connor, continue to refine their sword skills. Connor practices hard and frequently, but Grace (although not as diligent) has natural talent.

The other pirates treat Grace gingerly, figuring she is still recovering from her traumatic experiences with the Vampirates. In actuality, though, the Vampirates treated her well. She still wishes she had been able to give her Vampirate friend, Lorcan Furey, a proper goodbye, but she couldn't find him when Connor arrived to save her. She thinks about Lorcan even more after she discovers his special ring inside her case with a note presenting it to her.

However, there are more immediate concerns, for the pirates of The Diablo attempt to take a ship but are defeated and captured by the crew of Molucco Wrathe's nemesis, Narcisos Drakoulis. Drakoulis not only delivers devastating news but demands a duel between crew members.

Meanwhile, back on The Diablo, Grace reminisces about Lorcan and drifts into sleep. When she awakens, her friend Darcy from the Vampirate ship is there. Darcy speaks to Grace but is so insubstantial that Grace's arms go through her when they try to hug. Darcy warns Grace that the Vampirate ship is in trouble and that Grace must not go near it because of the many rebels thirsting for blood. As Grace asks anxiously about Lorcan, Darcy fades away.

When Connor returns to The Diablo, he makes Grace promise she will never leave him, even as she thinks longingly of Lorcan and the Vampirates. Since Connor has pledged himself to The Diablo, he will never be able to leave it. Soon, though, Grace is having visions…and what she experiences makes her panic. She must check on Lorcan yet has promised to stay. Can she save her brother and still follow her heart?

This is another exciting swashbuckler, filled with friendship, romance, a pirate school, duels, heartbreak, old enemies, divided loyalties and (needless to say) vampire pirates. It is sure to satisfy fans of VAMPIRATES: DEMONS OF THE OCEAN, who may appreciate in particular the competent female pirates as well as the hilariously dark undead humor.
