It's Amelia Bedelia's first day as the housekeeper for Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, and Mrs. Rogers gives her a list of chores to do while they are out. There's no question that Amelia Bedelia follows instructions very well --- she does everything she is asked to do. Unfortunately, she is the kind of person that takes everything literally. Sure, she changes the bathroom towels, dusts the furniture and draws the drapes, but it's not what Mr. and Mrs. Rogers have in mind.

Great-Aunt Myra is coming for a visit and everything must be perfect when she arrives. So Mrs. Rogers is not too happy when she sees what Amelia Bedelia has done around the house, which includes stripping the sheets off the bed, checking Mr. Rogers's shirts and making a jelly roll. She's worried that Great-Aunt Myra won't feel at home. How does their visitor react to Amelia's work? The answer may surprise you --- or then again, it may not!

Amelia's idea of a wedding shower doesn't amuse Mrs. Alma but, by the end of the story, everybody is laughing. Amelia always seems to have that kind of effect on people.

Her zany actions result in a very embarrassing moment for Dr. Don Dinglebatt, who is judging the fair, and he storms out of the gym. It appears that there will be no winner this year and that Amelia Bedelia has done much more harm than good by showing up. Amelia Bedelia arrives at the Hardy residence to babysit Andrew and Angela while their mom goes to the doctor. Kathy Hardy informs Amelia Bedelia that she's expecting an "addition," which turns out to be the wrong choice of words. Because when the literal-minded housekeeper is alone with the children, two men from a construction company called "Additions Unlimited" pull into the driveway. Amelia Bedelia is convinced that these are the additions to which Mrs. Hardy was referring, so she allows Bill and Eddie to begin making major improvements to the house.

Meanwhile, Amelia Bedelia decides to accomplish some of the tasks on Mr. and Mrs. Hardy's to-do lists, such as sanding the deck, painting the patio using two coats, and putting marble on the kitchen countertops. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy will be in for quite a surprise when they see what has happened to their beloved house!

Amelia Bedelia visits an art museum. She is immediately fooled by a sculpture called Birdwatcher, convinced that this work of art is a real person. Mrs. Rogers introduces her to Arthur Stiles, the director of the museum, who suggests that she look around the museum and then they’ll figure out a way she can help as their newest volunteer.

At the gift shop, Amelia Bedelia purchases a genuine reproduction of a bust (a sculpture of the head, shoulders and chest) that looks just like Cousin Alcolu. She heads off to explore the museum and immediately comes across the real bust of Cousin Alcolu. Noticing that the bust she bought (which she refers to as a “real fake”) is in better shape than the original one, Amelia Bedelia swaps the busts. She places the “worth less” one on the pedestal and puts the “price less” one in her bag so she can take it home and clean it up.

It looks like Amelia Bedelia hasn’t made such a wise decision, right? Little does our literal-minded housekeeper know that this one action will have serious consequences for herself, Mrs. Rogers, Art and the museum. Will her entire visit be a bust?

Amelia Bedelia spots a tiny kitten who emerges from some plants in Mr. and Mrs. Rogers’s backyard. He resembles a miniature tiger, so naturally she names him Tiger. Because she has never taken care of a cat before, Amelia Bedelia thinks it would be a good idea to call the City Zoo. As luck would have it, a man named Mr. Lyon answers the phone, which leads to a hilarious exchange between them.

Amelia Bedelia decides to head to the store to buy Tiger something to eat. A series of misunderstandings ensues while the two stroll through the neighborhood, including her confusion over what a litter box is and what’s up for grabs at a garage sale. When a car literally drives the cat up a tree, Amelia Bedelia goes out on a limb in hopes of saving her new little friend.

After learning from the acting principal that every third grade teacher is out sick thanks to a virus, Amelia Bedelia agrees to help the third graders rehearse for their Thanksgiving pageant. The kids seem amused by their new director, which is totally understandable considering her interpretations of dress rehearsals, practicing lines, getting a different part, dressing rooms, big roles, sweet potatoes and cast parties.

Amelia Bedelia decides to make some improvements to the play as a way of bringing the Thanksgiving story up to date. What follows is the most literal retelling of the Mayflower voyage and the feast shared by the Pilgrims and Indians that has ever been presented. What an entertaining way to celebrate Turkey Day!
