Characters
Araminta Spookie --- lives in Spookie House, an enormous mansion filled with bats and rats, spiders and spooks. Best of all, there are tons of hidden passages. Give "Minty" her Secret Passage Kit --- a flashlight, a ball of string (for marking the way) and a bag of cheese and onion potato chips --- and she'll go anywhere. Minty has a flair for coming up with schemes. But of course, they often backfire, leaving her in a whole heap of trouble. No problem, though --- she'll just come up with a brand new one.
Aunt Tabby --- Araminta's aunt. She's a bit grouchy and rash, and she really hates to clean the boiler. She's not so great with ghosts either. But she keeps Spookie House running smoothly (most of the time!), and even though she can be rather stubborn, she always has Araminta's best interests at heart.
Uncle Drac --- Araminta's uncle has such a soft spot for bats, he actually sleeps with them way up in the bat turret! And don't get him started on his favorite creature, Big Bat. Uncle Drac would do anything for Big Bat. Luckily, he feels almost as soft towards Minty and her friends.
Wanda Wizzard --- Araminta's new best friend. She's a little short and sometimes nosy, and can even be a bit of a wimp. Still, she has a handful of magic tricks, likes cheese and onion potato chips (but not so much that she eats them all) and she's a good, loyal friend to have on hand if you get stuck in a grotto and the sea water is pouring in. Or something.
Sir Horace --- the 500-year-old ghost of Sir Horace Harbinger of Hernia Hall who walks around clanking in his ancient armor. Araminta always thought that Aunt Tabby moved Sir Horace around at night. How much more fun to find out that Sir Horace clunks around on his own!
Edmund --- Sir Horace's page is also an ancient ghost, but closer in size to Araminta and Wanda. He's a little too goody goody for Araminta's taste, although even she has to admit (sometimes!) that it's nice to find out that chivalry isn't really dead --- or if it is, at least its ghost is still walking around helping people!
Big Bat --- the biggest, most troublesome bat in the bat turret --- and Uncle Drac's special bat friend.
Barry Wizzard --- Wanda's dad. He has a real knack for magic tricks like turning orange fizz juice blue, and vice versa. He's also happy to help Uncle Drac with all the various bat duties around Spookie House.
Brenda Wizzard --- Wanda's mom. She's always eager to tackle some of the older, trickier aspects of Spookie House, like fixing Aunt Tabby's difficult boiler. She's also very fond of cats.
