Chet Gecko --- a fourth-grader. He is also a wisecracking detective, with a taste for trouble and for sweets!
Natalie Attired --- Chet's detective partner. She's a mockingbird who can mimic anyone's voice, and is well known for her truly rotten jokes.
Shirley Chameleon --- Chet's classmate. She flirts with Chet, even though he thinks girls are packing cooties.
Mr. Zero --- the fat cat school principal. He is sometimes called "Big Fat Zero."
Mrs. Bagoong --- the school's cafeteria lady who is also an iguana
Mr. Ratnose --- Chet's fourth-grade teacher
Minerva "Minnie" Stroney --- the school cook
Frenchy LaTrine --- a cheerleading mouse
Rocky Rhode --- a horned toad and a tough cookie.
Maureen DeBree --- the head janitor
Mrs. Glick --- Mrs. Glick, aka "The Beast of Room 3," is the detention room teacher.
Coach "Beef" Stroganoff -- the football coach and PE teacher
Erik Nidd --- a sixth-grader who is also a spider
Meena Moe --- Chet's classmate who is also a guinea pig
Scott Freeh --- anatole lizard, actor, twin
Bjorn Freeh --- the twin brother of Scott Freeh
Bona Petite --- a slinky "guy magnet" squirrel teacher
Play-Haunting Ghost --- the spirit of Emerson Hicky, founder of Emerson Hicky Elementary School
Anne Gwish --- a parakeet student
T-Bone LaLouche --- the ringtail boyfriend of Anne Gwish
Sarah Tonin --- a ballet-loving mole
Ms. Shrewer --- the shrew vice principal at Emerson Hicky Elementary
Maggie Crow --- Principal Zero's secretary
Oliver Suddon --- an owl student
Trixie --- a bunny student
Waldo --- a furball student (no one quite knows exactly WHAT Waldo is)
Twang --- a ferret student, who is part of the band known as the Stench Bombs
Lamar --- a Kingfisher student and member of the Stench Bombs
Boomchukka --- the raccoon member of the Stench Bombs
Fweeter --- the crow member of the Stench Bombs
Kent Hoyt --- a bobcat teacher
Mrs. Toaden --- a first-grade teacher
Ben Dova --- a wolverine bully
Popper --- a tree frog; candidate for school president
Viola Fuss --- a sandpiper; candidate for school president
Perry Winkel --- a fox; candidate for school president
Nadia Nyce --- a mink; campaign manager for Perry Winkel
Dum-Dum --- a badger bully
Burly and Gangly --- rat thugs
Bubba Ganoosh --- a punk possum; Cool Beans's nephew
Bo Newt --- Chet's salamander friend
James Bland --- a penguin who is a new student at Chet's school.
Ginger Vitus--- a sparrow who hires Chet to find her sister.
Conjuncti Vitus --- commonly called "Connie," she is Ginger's sister.
Marge Supial --- a school nurse who happens to be a wombat.
Bitty Chu --- a gopher who is Chet's classmate.
Olive Drabb --- a field mouse who is Chet's classmate.
Charles de Gull --- a seagull with a reputation as a bad dude.
Claire Voyant--- a mud hen who is a teacher at Chet's school.
Zibo --- a skunk who is Charles de Gull's sidekick.
Officer Frick and Officer Frack --- dogs who are cops.
Mindy --- a Ferret soccer player.
Amanda Reckonwith --- a yard-duty teacher who happens to be a snapping turtle.
Barbara Dwyer --- a porcupine who is a substitute teacher.

Miss Flemm --- a Chihuahua who happens to be a first-grade teacher.
