  6. Pa's fiddle music was so important to Laura that Pa promised she would inherit it when he died. The fiddle is on display at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum in Mansfield, Missouri.

  7. Laura first wrote the story of her life in an adult book called PIONEER GIRL, which never found a publisher.

  8. Laura's daughter Rose was a famous writer who encouraged her mother to write in order to earn a little extra money.

  9. When Garth Williams was hired to draw illustrations for a new version of the Little House books, he traveled to each place mentioned in the stories. It took him six years to finish the art work.

  10. Laura's sisters never had children of their own.

  11. Laura loved writing poetry and made up books full of her rhymes.

  12. A gift of a big, juicy, red Missouri apple was the deciding factor in Laura's decision to move to Missouri.

  13. Although LITTLE HOUSE IN THE BIG WOODS was published during the Depression, when few people had the money to buy books, it was a bestseller and made Laura famous.

  14. Laura did much research for each of her books, because she wanted the historical details to be as accurate as possible.

  15. Almanzo died at the age of 92. Laura always said she wanted to live to be 90. She died on February 10, 1957, three days after her 90th birthday.
