Fast Facts
- Marjorie Sharmat has worked with both her son and her husband on the Nate the Great series. Craig, her son, contributed to NATE THE GREAT AND THE MUSICAL NOTE, NATE THE GREAT AND THE TARDY TORTOISE and NATE THE GREAT AND THE CRUNCHY CHRISTMAS. And Mitchell, her husband, helped write NATE THE GREAT, SAN FRANCISCO DETECTIVE and NATE THE GREAT AND THE BIG SNIFF.
- Marjorie started to write stories and poems when she was eight, and she also "published" a newspaper, The Snooper's Gazette, with a friend. Most of the news they got for The Gazette came from spying on grown-ups.
- Sharmat has named many of her characters after family members. The most clear example of this is Nate the Great, named after her father, Nate.
- Sharmat has written over sixty books and the Nate the Great series has been translated into eleven foreign languages.
- Drawing, playing the piano, singing, eating pizza, drinking iced coffee, and receiving compliments about her work-in-progress from her dog are among some of Sharmat's favorite activities.
