Thirteen-year-old twins Bryce and Ashley Timberline seem to have a knack for discovering and then solving mysteries of all types. They get around fast with their twin ATVs, and this brother/sister team instinctively puts their internal antennas on high alert whenever they take on a new "case." Maybe it's because their own lives have been anything but "normal" that Bryce and Ashley feel compelled to work for causes bigger than themselves.
With their dad dying in a terrorist airplane attack, the move from Illinois to Colorado and their mom remarrying, the twins instantly become stepbrother and stepsister to 16-year-old Leigh. Both Bryce and Ashley have learned how to make adjustments quickly. Toss in their little brother Dylan, and the twins have a whole new set of family dynamics to contend with as well as a new school and its resident bully, Boo Heckler, who's bent on getting their ATVs for himself.
While Bryce and Ashley are still getting used to all the changes in their lives, their mother becomes a Christian soon after marrying Sam. The twins keep an eye on their mom's faith, and before long they become Christians as well. When their writer mom needs time to work on her new book, Sam offers the siblings a weekend away at a mining town, and they take off for a few days of fun. But they get more than just three days of relaxation, as a simple photo op turns into a deadly car chase when gold goes missing, and Bryce and Ashley unwittingly have the evidence stored in their camera. With high action drama and a killer on their tail, Sam's vehicle veers out of control into the icy water. Suddenly, Sam, the twins and little Dylan are fighting for their lives.
Thankfully no one dies, but the following days at home present more questions than answers as the two re-enter school sworn to keep the episode under wraps. Their sensors remain alert, which is a good thing, because someone is still trailing them for the missing evidence. With more storyline twists, Bryce and Ashley learn how to handle tough challenges, both from within and without, and they discover how inner strength is sometimes best evidenced during the scariest times.

Bryce and Ashley feel betrayed and stunned when their stepfather, Sam, apologizes to them for killing their dad. How could this be? Their real father died in an airplane attack targeted by terrorists. It doesn't make sense, but Sam can't reveal any more information yet. With their heads and hearts reeling, family members are trying to figure out if they can trust Sam when he isn't giving them much to go on. Bryce can't stand the suspense. He does some snooping on his own and finds revealing letters from a governmental security agency to their stepdad.
Unfortunately, the twins don't have the luxury of devoting all their time to Sam's confession. Two girls have been attacked in town, and a homeless man is being accused of the crime. With the town up in arms over the brutal assault, everyone is looking over their shoulders in fear. Bryce and Ashley aren't so sure that the girls' story adds up, and they begin digging around for new information. Other odd happenings pile up: missing food, shadows in the mountains and character witnesses who believe in the accused despite the surface evidence against him.
With their characteristic fearlessness, Bryce and Ashley speed into harm's way in search of the truth, and they discover that drawing assumptions is never the wisest course to take. Once all is laid bare, they learn a lesson about who to believe and who to trust, despite evidence to the contrary.

Ashley writes in her diary the following words: "This story is about a dead girl, a dead dog, a dead mom, and lots of dead mailboxes." With their characteristic inquisitiveness, the twin brother-and-sister detective duo of Bryce and Ashley find themselves enmeshed in another real life drama (two, actually).
Ashley is dealing with her nerves at the upcoming EEG she must have for a seizure disorder. Understandably she's distracted, but not so much so that she isn't drawn into the intrigue behind the cafeteria worker's sudden sadness. While no one claims to really "like" Mrs. Garcia, Ashley has grown fond of this woman and begins befriending her and gaining her trust. As she does, Mrs. Garcia tells Ashley the secret behind her sorrow. Her baby daughter, Danielle, was killed in a fire years earlier, but Mrs. Garcia doesn't believe her child is dead. So what's Ashley's only choice? To go after the clues and find out if Mrs. Garcia is right or not.
Meanwhile, Bryce is busy trying to catch the people who are trashing the mailboxes in town. Too bad all clues are pointing to his stepsister's boyfriend, Randy. Bryce and Ashley attempt to catch Randy in the act by sleeping outside, monitoring the street and listening in on conversations. Bryce debates whether or not to confide his suspicions to Leigh and his parents. Eventually, he gets the evidence he needs and confronts Randy with it before going to the police. How will Randy and his bat respond?
Before the last scene, both twins solve their respective mysteries successfully. However, each takes away new insight about how life's events are frequently beyond understanding. Yet again, Ashley and Bryce find that their new faith in God is anchoring them to a stronger tether than any of their natural skills and abilities can offer them.

When Ashley gets a call that an elderly neighbor friend is in trouble, she alerts her twin brother Bryce and they take off on their ATVs to investigate. Upon arriving, they find that Mrs. Watson has been robbed and is quite distraught. So begins a string of robberies in Red Rock that have both Ashley and Bryce honing their investigative skills. While they're trying to figure out who is the most likely suspect --- the newspaper carrier or an auto repairman --- their stepdad Sam lands them an alpaca-sitting job for the week.
Eager to earn some extra cash, the siblings get instructions on how to care, feed and protect the pricey herd of alpacas. Little do they realize how a group of unrelated variables would make their jobs almost impossible to carry out. First, Ashley's bandmates are jealous of her earning first chair, and the two girls threaten and ambush her. Bryce decides to take a risk by hiding out in Sam's truck to gather evidence at the auto repair shop. Then the burglars "set up" the alpaca's watchdog by accusing him of biting a jogger, thus removing another layer of protection from the twins and the herd.
Tensions heighten as they attempt to work through their investigation on their own steam while staving off the alpacas' predators (both the animal and the human kind). Ashley and Bryce piece together the signs that point to one particular person, and events fall into place where they are able to rescue the alpacas and bring the perpetrators to justice. Along the way, Ashley, in particular, finds herself challenged to deepen her understanding of the biblical definition of forgiveness. Though all the circumstances don't resolve themselves perfectly, the Timberlines continue to face life and its pain more realistically while tying it into their faith walk.
