February has been a really fabulous month for children's books, and I have so many I'm excited to share with you! Up first, you may remember me mentioning Jerry Craft's NEW KID in our last update, when I shared a link to an audio snippet on our blog. The book is finally in stores, and I have seen so much terrific buzz about it. It's being lauded for how it handles racism, micro-aggression and the struggle to fit in. In this book, seventh grader Jordan, who loves drawing cartoons about his life, is sent to a prestigious private school. The only problem is that he is one of the few kids of color in his grade. As he makes the daily trip from his Washington Heights apartment to the upscale academy, Jordan finds himself torn between two worlds --- and not really fitting into either one. Using his own cartooning as an outlet, Jordan tries to find out where he belongs, and what it means to choose one world over the other. I really cannot say enough about this wonderful book, so be sure to add it to your TBR if you have not read it already, and don't forget to listen to a clip from the audiobook here.
