Do Not Open This Math Book: Addition + Subtraction

Do your kids struggle with math? Do you also struggle with helping them with their homework? The problem just might be that the way they are being taught math in school looks and sounds different than the way it was taught when you were in school. DO NOT OPEN THIS MATH BOOK by celebrity and education advocate Danica McKellar helps parents figure out what is being taught in the classrooms so they can help their kids at home with their assignments.

"Parents and kids can read this great book together. You'll want to open it, even if it says not to!"

Parents and kids can read this great book together. You'll want to open it, even if it says not to! It is packed with lots of math problems, of course, but they are easy to understand and fun to do. There are 10 chapters covering such topics as place value, adding and subtracting with models, tricks to make addition easier and more. Each chapter has simple explanations for the concept, each of which are illustrated with colorful and helpful drawings, graphs and/or number lines. Each concept is explained several different ways to make the ideas easier to comprehend. Also, each chapter includes sections called "Game Time!" with fun-to-play games that teach the math concepts introduced in the chapter. Lastly, from time to time, there are "review" problems to work out, just to make sure you remember what you learned in previous chapters.

This book is colorful, helpful and user-friendly. Although you could write on the pages, if you want to keep using the book over and over, it would be best to reproduce the work pages with a copier to preserve the original book. An answer key is provided at the end of the book for any unanswered problems presented throughout the text.
