Gustav Gloom and the People Taker #1

Adam Troy-Castro, author of GUSTAV GLOOM AND THE PEOPLE TAKER, has written over 100 stories and has been nominated for some of the biggest awards the science-fiction genre has to offer. In GUSTAV GLOOM AND THE PEOPLE TAKER, the first of a series of books, Troy-Castro gives readers the story of a sad little boy named Gustav Gloom --- who lives in a dark house full of walking, talking shadows --- and his spunky new neighbour, Fernie What.

When Fernie and her family move to Sunnyside Terrace, Fernie --- a girl who loves monster movies and goes to bed in werewolf printed pajamas --- is immediately drawn to the dark and imposing home across the street from her own and the boy who lives there.

Fernie is an energetic heroine who is fully aware that she is walking into a house straight of a scary movie --- but walks in anyway, and saves the day.

During the first night in her new home, Fernie’s cat, Harrington, escapes into the Gloom house. Without hesitation, Fernie pulls on her Frankenstein slippers and follows. Inside the Gloom house, Fernie finds herself in a world full of awkward statues, monsters and shadows that have detached themselves from the people who cast them. While some of the shadows, like Gustav’s Great Aunt Mellifluous, are kind, others are sinister, and Fernie and Gustav soon find themselves racing from the People Taker and his Beast, and saving both themselves and Fernie’s family from the bottomless pit in the basement of the Gloom house.

Beautifully illustrated with black and white paintings reminiscent of Tim Burton, GUSTAV GLOOM AND THE PEOPLE TAKER is the story of a little girl who is brave enough to conquer her fears, save her family, and befriend a boy who is part human and part shadow.

Fernie is an energetic heroine who is fully aware that she is walking into a house straight of a scary movie --- but walks in anyway, and saves the day. Recommended for readers looking for a silly, scary adventure, GUSTAV GLOOM AND THE PEOPLE TAKER is the beginning of what is sure to be a great series.
