Marabel and the Book of Fate

MARABEL AND THE BOOK OF FATE by Tracy Barrett takes readers away to Magikos --- a vast land filled with royalty, magical creatures and hidden adventures. Magikos has always been governed by The Book of Fate, which has every recorded every event to ever happen and every event that will happen within its pages. Naturally, when The Book of Fate prophesized the birth of The Chosen One, all of Magikos rejoiced! But no one expected there to be a twin.

"MARABEL AND THE BOOK OF FATE empowers young readers to lead their own path....This novel speaks volumes to the importance of self-preservation and discovering independence."

Forced to live in the shadow as the second place prize to Marco, the first born twin, Marabel has always been put down and off to the side for every milestone --- including on her thirteenth birthday! The Book of Fate prophesized the awakening of The Chosen One, which all of Magikos looked to Marco to fulfill. That is until the evil Queen Mab, ruler of the Desolate Barrens, kidnapped Marco. Everyone expected Marco to awaken his true potential as The Chosen One and were willing to wait for him to find his own way home, but Marabel cannot accept this. Her twin brother, best friend and future ruler of Magikos had been kidnapped. She cannot wait for him to find a way back; she has to rescue him.

Leading the adventure with her closest friend, the claustrophobic maid Ellie and a self-centered talking Unicorn named Floriano, Marabel travels through secret underground tunnels, past secret walls, and through uncharted forests and mystical encounters. Marabel starts her journey filled with self-doubt, stumbling across solutions and learning as she goes. As Marabel continues on this rescue mission, she finds new strengths within herself, shedding the doubt and gaining the confidence and ingenuity she had all along. On her own and away from the doubting voices of her kingdom, she grows as an individual who cannot be ignored. By challenging everything that she felt held her back and pushing through arduous and challenging situations, she becomes the strong force that is capable of doing anything she sets her mind to, especially once family is involved.

MARABEL AND THE BOOK OF FATE empowers young readers to lead their own path, despite whatever limitations others have told them. This novel speaks volumes to the importance of self-preservation and discovering independence. Every person has the right to lead the life they want to lead. This story takes readers on the journey of how Marabel’s tenacity through difficult situations shows how clever her solutions can be. Throughout the book, readers get to enjoy the various myths of orges, goblins, wizards of all shades and what true Evil can look like.

Marabel’s journey gives readers insight once she discovers just how powerful a voice can be. Marabel is a bright young woman, proving all readers that they can be in charge of anything they set their mind to. As Marabel takes each new step in the Desolate Barrens she is always questioning processes, always thinking of ways to improve situations and starts acting like a true leader. This book also touches on the negative impacts of segregation, both in an economic sense when Magikos separated the magical creatures from humans, and the internal struggles of individuality that has been influenced to behave within the norm. Being lady-like and being strong do not have to be exclusive. She will never be the damsel in distress --- Marabel is her own knight in shining armor. Marco has been dubbed the Chosen One, but she is the chosen one of her own fate.
