The Time-Traveling Fashionista and Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile

THE TIME TRAVELING FASHIONISTA AND CLEOPATRA, QUEEN OF THE NILE by Bianca Turetsky is a great book for anyone with a love of fashion, cinema, history and time travel. In this adventure, Louise travels back in time to the making of the film Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, and then she goes even further back in time to Ancient Egypt.

Louise needs the perfect dress for a party. There is no better place to get vintage dresses than the Traveling Fashionista Vintage Sale. While there, the store owners Marla and Glenda guide her to a beautiful Grecian gown in lavender silk and chiffon. Louise goes behind the dramatic red velvet curtains to the changing room to try the gown on, and the room seems to spin as she suddenly whizzes through time.

She lands right in the path of a horse drawn chariot, and is pulled out of harm's way n the nick of time. Where is she? Lucky her, she is on the set of the Cleopatra movie starring Elizabeth Taylor. It’s a dream come true, because Louise and her mother love that film. Louise gets to meet the costume designer, and thinks she has found the ultimate career.  While Louise is rummaging around looking for the gold belt for the designer, she comes across an old trunk and finds a gorgeous pearl on a gold pendant necklace. When she tries on the necklace, she is transported back in time to Ancient Egypt.

The book is highly entertaining and will delight fashionistas everywhere.

It’s here that she meets Cleopatra. Her first job is to bring Cleopatra a heavy scroll to study. Then Louise must use a feather to fan Cleopatra for a long time. Her arms are killing her, but she can’t stop. Cleopatra’s summons her husband, King Ptolemy. The king is actually Cleopatra’s ten-year-old chubby brother, who acts like a whiny little kid. Louise later discovers that King Ptolemy is joining the forces of those who want to kill his sister. She also realizes that Cleopatra's little sister also wants her dead. Never before has Louise been so grateful to be an only child!

Louise comes face to face with death as she watches a man die after being bitten by a snake. She later witnesses another death. Louise realizes that she needs to get out of this violent era and get back home where she belongs. The only problem is that Cleopatra has the pearl necklace now. How will she get it back?

THE TIME TRAVELING FASHIONISTA AND CLEOPATRA, QUEEN OF THE NILE is an interesting book that deals with friendships and alliances. Louise sees firsthand the perils of dangerous family relationships where siblings struggle against one another for power. She learns that Cleopatra isn’t just a woman written about in history as a seductress, but a woman of enormous intelligence and power who must use her wits to stay alive. Louise’s own friendship can feel uncertain at times. Her best friend, Brooke, is dating a new boy. Louise feels that her friend is pulling away from her. So she needs to learn to balance her desire to want her friend all to herself and letting her friend have room to meet new people and have new experiences. Louise meets new people too. She has been trying to find Stella, another fashionista. She uses the internet to reach out to her, hoping that she gets the right Stella. The book is highly entertaining and will delight fashionistas everywhere.

This is the third book in the fashionista series for Bianca Turetsky. Her books have received high praise and have been translated in nine different languages. Bianca is a graduate of Tufts University. When she isn’t writing she runs the studio of artist/filmmaker Julian Schnabel. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
