The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book (Revised and Expanded Edition)

Greg Heffley is here to coach you through writing up your very own journal. Yes, this Wimpy Kid book, a revised and expanded edition of 2008's DIARY OF A WIMPY KID DO-IT-YOURSELF BOOK, actually stars you. To avoid the frightening sight of blank journal pages, which might trigger a terrible case of writer's block, Greg offers help on every bit of it, starting with the "What're You Gonna Do With This Thing?" introduction. Here, he tells us that you can write anything you want in this journal (you know better than to ever, ever call it a "diary," right?). Greg says someday you will want to show this book to people so they can marvel at how wonderful you were as a kid, but he also cautions you to be sure you do not write about your feelings in it (but of course, because this is not a D-I-A-R-Y).

We start off with the topic of survival in the form of a question: Just say you were going to be stuck on a desert island for the rest of your life, what would you want to have? The categories for the fill-in lists are video games, songs, books and movies. Hmm…very thought-provoking! Next up is a little "tell the truth" exercise called "Have You Ever…" where we get to check off yes or no to questions such as "Have you ever tried to blow a bubble with a mouthful of raisins?" and "Have you ever been kissed full on the lips by a relative who's older than seventy?" You may notice that some of these questions are extremely cringe-worthy, while making us laugh out loud.

Have you ever wondered what other people think of you? Do you yearn to know what you'll be like in 30 years? Greg has revelations for you when you fill in the answers to the Personality Test. Yes, your answers will reveal some stunning things about you (at least, according to Greg Heffley!)

I'm sure you've awakened in the middle of the night with an urgent need to write the captions for a cartoon, right? I mean, who hasn't? Well, in this book, you're given the opportunity to do just that. Greg helpfully draws out the cartoon for you, leaving the dialogue balloons empty for you to fill as you see fit. After you get the hang of that, you can compose your own cartoons, drawings and all, in the "Make Your Own Comics" pages. There's even a cartoon of your brain for you to fill in after you check out what Greg has in his brain. (You probably won't be too shocked to see that Greg's brain isn't filled with Algebra or classic literature. Instead, it leans heavily to video games, food and TV.)

Did you know that you can predict the future? Well, I guess anyone can predict; it's that "coming true" part that's iffy. In this book, you get several chances to predict what life --- and you --- will be like someday. As Greg points out, writing these predictions down gives you great ammunition for saying "I told you so" when all your predictions eventually come to pass.

Whether your predictions of the future actually come true or not, here's a prediction I feel free to make: Wimpy Kid fans everywhere will thoroughly enjoy filling out this hilarious and thought-provoking journal.
