Willie's Redneck Time Machine

Review

Willie's Redneck Time Machine

Yes, you read that title right. Yup, this is exactly what you think it is. Reader, get ready to embark on truly the zaniest literary adventure I can promise you will have in the near future. Written by John Luke Robertson, son of Willie Roberston of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty”, WILLIE’S REDNECK TIME MACHINE is a choose-your-own-adventure book for kids revolving around John Luke’s dad stumbling upon the mysterious appearance of a time machine in the form of an outhouse. Initially thinking it’s a prank, Willie’s first major decision depends on whether or not he chooses to step into the time machine. From there, readers can end up in all places in time.  I don’t want to spoil any of the possible outcomes, so I will only say that the reader can send Willie anywhere, from monumental wars to prehistoric times to the distant future, and the reader can choose to have Willie interact with a variety of people, including some surprising characters.

The writing is funny and simple, full of jokes will definitely entertain kids and give adults reading along a good chuckle or two.

The writing is funny and simple, full of jokes will definitely entertain kids and give adults reading along a good chuckle or two. The story is obviously going to be very goofy and nonsensical, but the book is aware of its nature, which made me appreciate the fact that it didn’t take itself too seriously. The book --- and its three other companions in the Be Your Own Duck Commander series --- are meant to be entirely for kids, and they’re harmless good fun. There’s definitely higher quality children’s literature out there, but WILLIE’S REDNECK TIME MACHINE is like a kid’s version of a guilty pleasure --- it will provide an absurd but amusing hour-or-so break that will leave them giggling and imagining their own time traveling adventures.
